Charlie Ross

Charlie ran his own auction house in Woburn for over 25 years and has conducted a wide variety of auctions ranging from antiques, commercial and residential properties, through to vintage cars and Intellectual Property.

The very first lot that he sold – in 1968 – was…
a pen of chickens!

Rare & Vintage Car Auctions

For many years, Charlie has conducted the official Pebble Beach Vintage Car Auction in California, the Scottsdale Auction in Arizona, and the Amelia Island Auction in Florida for Gooding and Company.

Following the hugely successful Passion of a Lifetime single owner auction at Hampton Court in 2020, Charlie was back on the rostrum in September 2022 at The London Auction at Hampton Court Palace with another collection of fine motor cars that realised over £22 million in sales.

Charity Auctions

After the various COVID lockdowns, which proved so disastrous for many charities, activity in the fundraising sector has picked up hugely and is back to and beyond pre-COVID levels.

Charity fundraising events Charlie has already supported this year include The Elton John AIDS Foundation Dinner at Annabel’s, which raised a whopping £2.2 million for the charity, and the Amber Lounge event in Monaco, from which Caudwell Children benefitted by over £430k.

Other charities that have recently benefitted from his gavel-wielding include: The Rainbow Trust, The Prince’s Trust, Cancer Research UK, Young Lives v Cancer, The Teenage Cancer Trust, The African Revival, Fauna and Flora, and The Red Cross.

The latter half of 2022 will also see Charlie conducting auctions for: Rainbows Children’s Hospice, Shooting Star Hospices, Ronald MacDonald, Great Ormond Street Hospital, DEBRA, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Waterloo Uncovered, The London Playing Fields Association, NSPCC, Hilton Foundation, The Lord’s Taverners, and HemiHelp.

TV Appearances

Away from the rostrum, Charlie is also a familiar face on television. He continues to be one of the seven regular presenters of BBC’s Bargain Hunt with Eric Knowles, Christina Trevanion, Natasha Raskin, Caroline Hawley, Roo Irvine, and Danny Sebastian, which continues to be one of the BBC’s most popular programmes and has recently celebrated 20 years on the screen.

Charlie has also appeared on The Antiques Roadshow, The Antiques Road Trip, Flog It!, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is, For What It’s Worth, and Pointless.

Most recently, Charlie was a guest on Morning Live with Gethin Jones and Sheree Murphy.

Talks

Charlie also gives talks to charities and other organisations and has recently been seen entertaining guests on a cruise ship.

Before Christmas 2021, Charlie was honoured to be the guest speaker at the Annual Dinner of The Freemen of the City of London at The Guildhall. He was also thrilled to be invited into the Test Match Special box to give his “Views From The Boundary“.
